This is my final burger for #BurgerMonth. I hope y’all have been following the hashtag on social media to see all the delicious burgers the crew have shared this month and continue to share. It’s been so fun seeing all the stacked and packed burgers! Some of them are off the charts in epicness!

I know this Carne Asada Burger doesn’t look as epic as the Garbage Plate Burger I shared last week. However, the epicness is all on the inside of this burger. And in that guacamole topping. There is definitely no lack of flavor there.

Carne asada, for those that don’t know, is a Mexican marinated steak. The marinade has lime and/or orange juice, garlic, cilantro, and jalapeno as the main flavors. The meat is typically skirt steak or flank steak and grilled to perfection.

It’s typically used for tacos. And they’re oh so good. But the meat can also be used in burritos, quesadillas, nachos, sopas, etc. You get the picture. It’s a super tasty filling for many other dishes.  There’s a whole carne asada menu of ideas for this delicious beef.

This Carne Asada Burger has all those flavors in there minus the cilantro. If you’re a regular here, you’ll know I’m one of THOSE people! If you’re new here, I’m one of THOSE people. I cannot stand the stuff and know when a leaf of the herb is even waived over a bowl of salsa.

So, there’s no cilantro in this burger. But there is a ton of other flavors in there. I’ve added my delicious fajita seasoning in there along with some additional chili powder and cumin. I don’t know about you, but cumin is an intoxicating flavor to me! I love everything about that spice.

This is one delicious beef burger patty recipe!

There’s also some onion powder, garlic salt, and minced jalapeno in the burger. I’ve also added lime juice and some beer. Yes. Beer. Because when we made carne asada growing up, it always started with a marinade made with beer and spices. It adds such a unique and delicious flavor to the burger that takes me back.

We’d pour beer, lime juice, cumin, chili powder, garlic power, and onion powder or chopped up onions in the plastic bag. The steak would go in and marinade at least 8 hours. When you opened the back to grill the meat the aroma just hit you in the face! Oh my. Making my mouth water thinking about it.

So, when I decided to make this Carne Asada Burger, I had to make it a beer burger recipe and add some beer to get that flavor I remember growing up. And it really does taste like those many flank steaks we had growing up. WAY before flank steak and skirt steak became popular. When it was one of the cheapest cuts of meat because no one knew how to cook it back in the day.

My mom probably doesn’t think so but being a young kitchen hoor I was lucky enough to have a father that traveled. He went to many different states and when he was there learned about a new dish or technique. Then he would come home and try to recreate the dish or use that technique. We had blackened spices before there even was a Bam!

I had a whole other shot set for that last image, but you couldn’t see ANY of the jalapeno in the burger. They halves had to be rotated putting this one in front. The whole burger almost deconstructed in the process. It was not fun! But, I wanted to make sure you could see the tiny flecks of jalapeno in the burger.

My jalapeno was not hot, but yours might be. Just be sure you’re ready for some heat in the burger, and on top! The chipotle guacamole is double packed with spice. Just like regular jalapenos, you might grab a chipotle (which is a roasted jalapeno) that isn’t as hot one day and the next one is super spicy. So, just be prepared!

And be prepared for more burger epic goodness for the rest of the month. Also, make sure you enter the giveaway! There’s some killer prizes to be won. I’m hoping for the Lego set. Yes. LEGO SET! LOVE!

Ingredients

For the guacamole:

  • 2 whole avocados (about 4 inches in length and producing roughly 1 1/2 to 2 cups avocado)
  • 1/4 cup minced red onion
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon minced chipotle pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced jalapeno
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt! For the burgers:
  • 1 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons beer
  • 2 tablespoons minced jalapeno
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon Fajita or Taco seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Remaining ingredients:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • 6 ounces sliced cheese (I used American, but Cheddar or Monterey Jack would be good.)
  • Sliced sweet onion

Instructions

For the guacamole:

  1. Mash the avocados with the chipotle pepper using a fork.
  2. Stir in the remaining ingredients and refrigerate.

For the burgers:

  1. Combine the burger with the remaining ingredients (beer through garlic salt).
  2. Fold the ingredients until combined, being careful not to over mix the ground beef.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Form the burger mixture into 4 patties.
  5. Grill on medium-high heat 3 minutes. Rotate the burgers 45 degrees for those pretty grill marks and grill an additional 3 minutes.
  6. Turn the burgers over and repeat.
  7. Place the cheese on top and cook 1 minute before removing from the grill.
  8. Let the burgers rest while you prepare the buns.

Assemble the burgers:

  1. Place a pattie on each of the 4 buns.
  2. Place toppings of choice on the burger.
  3. Top with the guacamole and serve with chili fries.
