For me there is nothing more creative that hacking a tried and tested pattern! For those of you new to the hacking game we thought that a blog post was in order. We’ve compiled some of the most hacked sewing patterns so that you can get your creative juices flowing! Who knows you may even own some of these patterns so get your notepad out, raid that stash and try something new this weekend….
The Ogden Cami Pattern Hack
We had to start this with the Ogden cami from True Bias. It must have been one of the most made sewing patterns of the past few years. It’s a classic shape, perfect for layering and it seems once you’ve made one you’ll want to make it in all the colours! We’ve seen little adjustments such as thickening the straps and adding bust darts but some of you guys have got really creative.
Want to turn it into a dress? Check out Kelli’s version, it’s such a simple hack but completely transforms it and she’ll show you how to tweak yours. Adding some ruffle action to this top really changes the feel of it, we love Sylvia from the Ravel Out’s asymmetric version. Looking for a simple tweak then check out the Paulette from the Petite Font’s bust ruffle. One of my absolute favourite was this blog series from Lily Shines where she has hacked the cami four different ways. If you really want a deep dive then this pattern also has it’s own hashtag on instagram #ogdencamihack. The Kew Dress Pattern Hack

The Kew dress from Nina Lee is the most wonderful summer dress, if you’ve got an event this summer then definitely check it out because you are going to love it! There are three variations with this pattern so you can make a skirt and two dress options.  It’s been made by so many people it’s turned into a bit of a cult classic, but the hack potential for this is great..
Nina has hacked the kew dress into a jumpsuit and we couldn’t be more into it! If you’re looking for a cropped top then look not further than Sally’s fantastic version. Jen’s hack of the Kew has become a classic and loads of people have followed suit. You can find out how she got rid of the button down front here. Nikki’s version of the Kew dress with squared off neckline and tie sleeve is wonderful. Warning you are going to want to make this! The Hinterland Dress Pattern Hack

The Hinterland dress from Sew Liberated is one of our most popular patterns and we can see why you all love it so much! The simple shape and relaxed fit means that you can have it whipped up in no time at all and there are lots of variations making  perfect for summer.
Wow what a transformation… Max has created a wrap version with a whole lotta ruffle. There is a fantastic tutorial on how to make the Hinterland into a V neck summer dress with elasticated waist. It’s a few simple tweaks but it really changes the feel of the dress. Oh my days the maxi version of this from Lauren has set my heart a flutter! This is such a lovely hack and who doesn’t need a little chest ruffle in their lives The Adrienne Blouse Pattern Hack
The Adrienne Blouse from Friday Pattern Company is a winner of a pattern. The construction is pretty simple, in fact it’s only four pattern pieces and you get ‘that sleeve.’ It’s a jersey pattern too so in terms of fitting it’s on the easy side. You can see what it’s become a really popular pattern. If you’re wondering how you can hack this then you are in for a treat..
Saki has knocked it out the park by turning this into a sheared dress… don’t believe me then go check it out. Katie from What Katie Sews has come up with a really simple hack to completely change the sleeve. I loved Victoria’s simple little hack that makes it perfect for summer. I you need another statement sleeve idea then go and marvel at Stacey’s creation. Tamarack Jacket Pattern Hack

The Tamarack jacket from Grainline studio has been made by so many of you. The quilted element has encouraged quilters to head to the dark side (dressmaking) and us dressmakers to think that perhaps we should make a quilt. This jacket is one I’ve enjoyed searching the hashtag on instagram to see what you’ve all done with  it. Want to hack then here are some amazing things people have created…
Meritts Makes has knocked it out the park and made this into a wrap version of the jacket, the other wonderful thing is that this is also reversible. She’s got a tutorial on her blog if you wanted to created something similar. Loni from having sew much fun, saw something she wanted to recreate in a shop and came up with this amazing version. There is a fab blog post stuffed full of good stuff… Not a hack but this is the lovliest idea for the lining of your jacket from Holly Brooke has extended the jacket and added a dramatic curved hem to hers… seriously in love with this version.
The Flora Dress Pattern Hack

The Flora dress from By Hand London has been a slow and steady burner for a long time. For those of you that own this pattern you’ll know why it’s so popular. The shape of the neckline alongside the bust and waist darts mean once you got the fit nailed then it’s a great base for some creative pattern cutting.
Those of you that watched Little Woman and want to channel you inner Jo March should check out this wonderful version from Pip. Yes please! We love the cold shoulder version of the Flora from Shauni from the Magnificient Thread! If there was ever a beautiful summer dress that I needed in my life then I think Ana’s version with the tie straps and gathered layers is perfect! Having seen this dress in the flesh I think you’re all going to go out and make one immediately. Thank you for the inspiration from Alice in her polka dot palace!
