I’m Blue – The Capsule Edition
This past week was March Break – yeah, that’s right, it was delayed until April! Ontario is rapidly sinking into disaster, so I started off the holiday being pretty blue. So what could be better to cheer myself up than sewing a blue-themed mini capsule? Behold, a few days of sewing: Let’s look at each garment! First up, the Tyra Tee by Just Patterns. This is the newest of the patterns I sewed, mixed in with some true classics. I posted on Instagram this winter that I was looking for a pattern for a boxy sweater, and the designer from...
How to Grill Everything – the Ultimate Guide
June looms. Summer is almost upon us. The sun’s out, people are starting to gather and mingle, the big box stores are stocking charcoal again, and those chicken drumsticks, that tri tip, that lamb leg, and that salmon filet behind the butcher counter are looking good. You feel the pull of the grill. It calls to you. You need to respond—but how to do it? Not everyone is a grill master. With baking and traditional recipes, you can follow along just by reading. Oven temperatures and controlled gas ranges make cooking indoors fairly predictable. But outside, out on the grill,...
TOP:: Ulla Johnson
My weekly finds are back! I rounded up tons of Spring and Summer dresses and a few home finds that would make nice Mother's Day gifts below. A few favorites:: Figured I'd share what I actually liked and kept from my Shopbop order from the sale two weeks ago. I got this necklace which I've worn three times already this week. I ordered these Alexandre Birman sandals and these Ancient Greek ones and I'm planning on only keeping one pair. Still trying to figure out which pair will go back! What do you think? This WAYF dress that I wasn't expecting to work...
Regina King in Louis Vuitton at the 2021 Oscars: one of the best looks of the night?
Everything Regina King does is a serve, as the youths would say. She’s really in her bag these days, directing full-length feature movies and Cadillac commercials, getting the best couture and being chosen to “open” the Oscars. One of the best parts of the 2021 Oscars was Regina’s Louis Vuitton gown and her long, continuous-take walk from the red carpet to inside the Union Station venue (I’m including the video below). Did you know that her Oscar date was Aldis Hodge? He’s ridiculously good-looking, my God. Hodge starred in Regina’s film One Night In Miami. As for the LV… I’m...
Fitness vs. Fatness (Part 6): I Was a (??)-Pound Weakling
A famous magazine ad for the Charles Atlas body building course used a campaign beginning with a 98-pound weakling enduring “the insult” of having a beach bully kick sand in his face in the presence of his girlfriend. (One of Atlas’s ads in fact appears to be lampooned in a shot of Goofy Gymnastics, reviewed last week.) This week, three cartoons take off from similar situations, leading characters to attempt to prove their muscular abilities against bullies for the love of a girl. And no, none of them feature Popeye! The scales are balanced with three more episodes of untamed...
