An intimate, laid back and love-filled wedding at Stoke Newington Town Hall followed by a pub reception at The Londesborough with DIY styling, beautiful florals and a rustic naked cake. Creating a relaxed celebration was extremely important for this couple as they wanted to create more of a gathering for all of their closest friends and family to eat amazing food and drink great wine. Flowers and foliage dressed the venue to create a special forest styled backdrop, mixed excellently with chalkboard signs and white paper lanterns. Alix wore a stunning Halfpenny London dress layered under a romantic tulle skirt which she whipped off for the evening of dancing, the groom described the vibe as ‘Peaky Blinders’, he and his groomsmen nailed this perfectly in their grey three-piece suits. All in all a fun-filled day captured by Kitty Wheeler Shaw.
WHAT MADE OUR DAY UNIQUE
“We wanted the wedding to feel like somehow all our favourite people accidentally turned up at the same pub, in the mood for celebrating that happy coincidence…. where there happened to also be a wedding. Neither of us wanted a really formal ‘occasion’ and the most important thing for us was that our friends and family (and us) had fun. One of the things which were quite unique was the walk from Stoke Newington Town Hall to the pub where there was an extinction rebellion protest and where we got ‘congratulated’ by pretty much every kid in Clissold Park. The speeches were also pretty unique with my mum essentially roasting me and the best men managing to pull off a sort of 20-minute comedy routine/strip show which had the whole pub in hysterics. We also decided to do a joint speech so that we got to tell our friends and each other how much they meant to us.” – Alix & Andy
Stoke Newington Town Hall
Stoke Newington Town Hall is a London wedding venue that offers brilliant 1930s glamour with its dark mahoganies, elegant marble and art-deco touches. Hazel Gardiner created the floral installations and beautiful foliage bouquets all in keeping with the green and forest styled inspiration, along with the bridesmaids wearing stunning emerald green dresses teamed with delicate gypsophila hair accessories. So classy and elegant, suiting the theme perfectly.
INSPIRATION & STYLING
“When Andy wrote to Kitty to describe what we wanted beforehand he explained the vibe as ‘peaky blinders celebrate their passion for pub based horticulture’. I think that’s just about the look we managed to achieve. We wanted the wedding to not really feel like a wedding but just a massive party with all our favourite people all dressed up and that’s exactly how we felt it was. We took inspiration from our own aesthetic in terms of loving all things green and loving to get dressed up fancy occasionally.” – Alix & Andy
ADVICE
“Make it about you and your partner. Don’t get too caught up by trying to plan every detail to perfection. It will all go slightly different to plan but those are the bits that will actually mean the most. They’re also the elements which will make your day different to all the other weddings you see on wedding blogs and your pinterest inspiration board.” – Alix & Andy
