Summer officially begins in just a few days, and yes, we are still virtual. As much as I had hoped that the physical doors of my studio and music therapy private practice, Music Therapy Connections, would be open by now, they are not. The safety of our team and families is our #1 priority, and the risk of COVID-19 still remains too high to resume in-person services.
So we will continue teaching lessons and facilitating music therapy sessions virtually, as well as holding our music classes via livestream. After a 10-week virtual spring music class session, I enjoyed a glorious two week break (during which I celebrated both of my children’s birthdays as well as my own!)…but now it’s time to get back into the swing.
Virtual Music Offering #1
This week, I’ll kick off a 6-week summer session of early childhood and preschool music classes, livestream style via Zoom. I know lots of us (myself and my kids included!) are kinda Zoom’d out at this point, but virtual music class is better than no music class at all.
The registration cost for a 4-week session is typically $55 per child, but we are extending the same rate per family for this 6-week summer session. Registration includes access to the livestream sessions, a full-length video of each week’s class, and a song packet (with lyrics and chords) to accompany them.
This registration fee will be prorated each week, so you may register at any time throughout the duration of the session. You are also welcome to donate to Music Therapy Connections by selecting a higher registration fee. As with the spring session, these classes are open to anyone (including music therapists and educators looking for inspiration for their own offerings!) near or far, not just locally. More details and online registration are right here.
Virtual Music Offering #2
Early Childhood & Preschool Music in the Virtual Setting is an all-access pass to the 11 weekly virtual music sessions I created and provided for children ages 0-5 throughout Spring 2020. It also includes a guidebook of my approach to facilitating virtual music experiences for children.
Each session contains 11-12 songs (a mix of originals, covers and adaptations) in a cohesive, goal-based 30-45 minute video, along with the accompanying lyrics/chords. This resource is available as a continuing education course (pre-approved by CBMT for 8 CMTE credits) or simply for the content. All the details are right here.
My Plans for the Summer
Like so many other parents, I will have my children home with me all summer long, which makes accomplishing all of my work-related goals a bit more of a challenge than usual. So while I’ll be spending most of my days with them, I’m definitely making time for the following:
- creating session plans for July & August
- writing a BUNCH of new songs!
- tackling my list of over 30 older songs that need to be re-recorded
It’s a nontraditional summer in just about every possible way, and it will definitely be one to remember (for the good and for the bad). I’m hopeful that by the end of it, COVID-19 will no longer be running rampant, kids will be headed back to school and adults to work, many necessary changes will be made or in the works related to the Black Lives Matter movement, and there will be some semblance of peace + stability in the world.
