Get your Treasure Valley bike map using Google

Now you can map out that weekend bike ride you’ve been wanting to take your family on.

Just go to Google Maps and click on where it says “More…” and check the box that says “Bicycling” and wham, the local bike-friendly routes will be displayed. There are a lot of Boise maps, a few for Meridian and one for Nampa.

Now you can get back to checking those tires and greasing that chain.

Well this just confirms the suspicion I've had for a while now: there are no bike routes in Meridian and very few in the Treasure Valley. My guess is there is a data overlay tied to streets with dedicated "bike lanes." That's what I recognize from the streets in green. Essentially, in Meridan, we have none! Back to dodging cars for me ....
  • Nice feature. (And I noticed some other things I wanted under the "New" picks as well.) The map of Boise shows some strange route forms, and disconnectivity. Which we all know first-hand from riding around town.

The loop around the mall, f'rinstance. No exit southbound, and sketchy to the east.

Google Maps has a trike that they take "off road" (Pompeii, Legoland). I submit a request to have them tour the Green Belt, but it looks like the puny 5.5 mile "Greenway" in Boulder CO won the contest. You can read more about it here: google.com/trike
