Out on the town: Sockeye Grill & Brewery
-by Ryan Montgomery
It’s hard to believe that it’s already September and that the summer has started to slowly slip away. On one of the 90 degree days last week my wife and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and hit up the patio at Sockeye Grill & Brewery for some tasty brews and a little food too.
Sockeye generally has a stable of 4-5 beers that are regularly on tap and a few seasonal selections to round things out. I tried their Prairie Smoke, a Rauchbier style of beer, at the Eco Brew Fest earlier this summer and decided to go with a pint of it. I also snuck in a taster of their new Revé Doré, a barley wine aged in oak barrels. The Prairie Smoke has a smokey, almost bacony, smell but the smoke flavor is mild and backed up by some sweet malt with a nice clean finish. While tasty alone the beer was even better with a little food.
You’ll find a nice selection of pub grub at Sockeye from beer battered finger steaks to salads, burgers, and sandwiches. One of my favorite additions to the menu in the last year is the Lemon-Peppered Coho Club Wrap stuffed with salmon, bacon, feta, lettuce, tomatoes, and a little basil vinaigrette. The crispy sweet potato fries with chipotle mayo made a flavorful side. My wife went with a cheeseburger and fries, which was also good, but I forgot to take a pic (sorry I’m a little new to this whole taking pictures of my dinner thing).
It looks like we’re in for some more nice weather this weekend, so get to the patio at Sockeye and enjoy it while you can. Even after the weather turns they’ll still have plenty of room inside for you to come grab a bite to eat and some tasty local brew. Also don’t forget to look for Sockeye’s brews at other local bars and restaurants around the Treasure Valley.
