The Treasure Valley:
- Officials outline jail proposal. Canyon County commissioners addressed a crowd Tuesday as they outlined plans for a potential $46 million bond to build a new jail. They will consider a resolution to put the jail bond on the Nov. 3 ballot at their Aug. 31 meeting.
- KeyBank to build in northeast Meridian. KeyBank plans to open a 4,000-square-foot branch office in mid-2010 at Ustick and Eagle roads, Meridian, in front of the Lowe’s store. It will be Key’s 32nd branch in Idaho and 16th in the greater Boise valley.
- Officials: Man wanted police to shoot him. A man shot by a Nampa police officer Sunday morning told investigators he wanted to be shot, prosecutors said Tuesday. Richard Doyle Mattison is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
- One year later many Amity Road fire victims have rebuilt. Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of the fire that broke out along Sweetwater Drive, killing one Boise woman and destroying ten homes. For many of the families in the neighborhood the last year has been spent rebuilding and healing.
- Community college launches 7 campus locations. The state’s newest community college has launched seven campus locations in Ada and Canyon counties.

- Flapjack Feed offers food, fun. More than 2,000 people are expected at the Boise Centre on the Grove plaza this Thursday morning as United Way of Treasure Valley kicks off its 2009 Community Campaign with the second-annual Flapjack Feed.
- Idaho Youth Ranch opens bookstore in one of their Boise locations. It’s not just a thrift store anymore. Idaho Youth Ranch’s store on Orchard has a new feature: an in-store shop for used books.

- Police chase in Nampa lands escapee back in Jail. A prison escapee is back behind bars, but not before doing some major damage around Nampa Tuesday Morning.

- Meridian Man Accused of Enticing Teen on the Internet. Detectives from Ada County arrested Michael John Reynolds, 45, late Monday night after he tried to meet up with a teenager for sex.
Politics:
- Sen. Edward Kennedy, 77, dies after cancer battle. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, the last surviving brother in an enduring political dynasty and one of the most influential senators in history, died Tuesday night at his home on Cape Cod after a yearlong struggle with brain cancer. He was 77.
- From the Editor: The Kennedy Dynasty: Edward had the chance to live a full life, unlike his brothers Joe, John, Bobby.
- Idaho Statesman: The timing is right to hunt wolves. Evidently, the must-have accessory this hunting season is an Idaho wolf tag.
- Idaho Press-Tribune: Fairgrounds land buy smart, but irks some. When the Canyon County Fair Board recently announced it was going to spend $1.5 million for 81 acres north of Nampa to be used as the fair’s new home, and Canyon County commissioners signed off on the plan, reactions were mixed.
- White House: Swine flu could kill 90,000. Local health officials say they take the projected numbers seriously and are working with school districts to work out immunization details. Seasonal flu claims as many as 36,000 lives a year in the United States.
