I would have to agree. Franziskaner Heffe-Weisse was one of the first “good” beers I ever had. Knocked my socks off then and still does today.

The level of creaminess you speak of isn’t there in the Kellerweis. And while I very much like the definitive notes and tastes in the Kellerweis, the Franziskaner takes very similar qualities and finesses them to a point where they couldn’t get much more balanced and smooth.

I guess if a brewery has a been making beer since 1363, you have some opportunity to perfect things a bit. :)

I was thinkin’ something like that. While I was (am) really up on SN Kellerweise I think that the Franz would still take it down.

I love “The Keller”, and for the price you can’t really beat it, but I think “The Franz” is a little more complete overall.

So does this mean we are having a Sierra Nevada Kellerweis vs. Franziskaner Heffe-Weisse smackdown? “The Franz” vs. “The Keller”? The former the old-school standard with definite chops and the latter the new kid on the block with fresh moves. Blind taste test anyone?
