Monday beer club – Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse
The old standby.
Pours with a frothy white head, about two inches with a really hard pour, quickly settles down with a translucent cap remaining for the duration. Color is yellow with deep amber at the think points, cloudy and creamy. The nose is dried banana peel with some spicy cloves — this is a really aromatic brew, one you can smell even as it sits in front or you. Taste is creamy and crisp, airy banana with some hints of citrus and spice. The mouthfeel is outstanding, tang and tart, bubbly and acidic.
If there is one word to explain this beer it is creamy. Everything about it is creamy, the head, the look, the taste and the mouthfeel. Truly an excellent beer and one that deserves a permanent spot in your fridge — I know it does in mine.
Anyone else?
Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss: Nose full of banana bread and cloves. Golden cloud of wheat showers lemon and clementine. Classic summer session.
Next week’s Beer Club Brew will be New Belgium Skinny Dip.
